The Scientist & Engineer's Guide to Digital Signal Processing 1st Edition is an excellent book that explains DSP at a level most engineers can easily understand without relying too much on z-transforms. The author does a great job of explaining technical concepts without hiding or getting too buried in the math. The book is helpful for those with a more practical than academic interest and has proved valuable for readers' work. It is arguably the clearest introduction to DSP and Fourier analysis. The author stitches concepts together effectively while providing both math and code examples. There have been suggestions that the book could use a second edition replacing BASIC with Python. Though missing some essential topics like resampling, the book's effectively combines practical and theoretical explanations, which is rare for a DSP textbook.
