What materials can the Freud High Speed Steel Forstner Bits drill through?

These bits are designed to drill through wood and most wood products.

What is the benefit of the sharp center spur?

The sharp center spur accurately locates the center of your hole, providing precision and accuracy in your drilling.

What types of holes can this bit be used for?

This bit can be used for drilling flat bottom holes, pocket holes, or overlapping holes.

Are these now made in Austria or China?

The Diablo box and Freud branded Bits I got both say Austria on them with no references to China.

Has anyone used this without a drill press? Just using a regular drill? I am purchasing to make candle holders out of wood.

Yes, someone has used it without a drill press. They used a 2-1/8" bit to cut 1/8" into a door frame to recess a safety handle. They used a regular electric drill on slow speed.

How accurate is the sizing? I have a 1 inch dowell rod that I want to make a hole for where it will fit snuggly. Another brand resulted in an oversize

There is no information about the accuracy of the 1 inch bit but someone used the 3/4 inch bit and found that it resulted in a slightly wider hole. They used a 3/4 inch spade bit to create an even deeper hole.

Can this bit be sharpened? How hard is that to do compared to sharpening other tools?

Yes, it can be sharpened. To repair a nick in the cutting edge, a round file can be used. But it is very time consuming to sharpen the entire bit with a file. To avoid dulling the cutting edge, run the bit at low speed and use smaller bits to remove most of the material before finishing the cut with the larger 2" dia. bit.

Does it come with a case?

No, the bit does not come with a case.

Anyone know if there is an extension arm for this bit

No, Freud does not sell an extension arm for this bit.

Specifically for the freud fb-107 set, are the bits labeled freud or diablo?

The person did not buy the 7 piece set but purchased two individual bits - 1 and 1/8 and 1 and 1/2. Both were labeled Freud and are excellent bits.

Diablo Forstner Drill Bits Editorial Review

The Freud PB-107 Precision Shear 7 Piece 14-Inch to 1-Inch Serrated Edge Forstner Drill Bit Assortment is a well-made and sharp set of drill bits that come in a nice box. The sizing is accurate and they can be used with a regular electric drill on slow speed. The drill bits are labeled Freud and are made in Austria. However, the stickers placed directly on the product case are hard to remove and ruin the appearance of the box. While the product works as expected and stays sharp, some customers have experienced issues with the drill bits not turning true in their drill press. Overall, the Freud PB-107 Precision Shear 7 Piece 14-Inch to 1-Inch Serrated Edge Forstner Drill Bit Assortment is a quality set of drill bits that are worth the investment.
